Flood protection work is set to begin on the Bog Road Portarlington in County Offaly.
Offaly County Council secured €132,795 in funding to improve the critical route, which has been regularly rendered impassable in recent times due to flooding.
The Bog Road is a key route for students accessing Coláiste Íosagáin, a secondary school of over 1000 students.
Funding was secured under the OPW Minor Work Flood Mitigation Scheme.
Mark Mahon, Area Engineer for Edenderry Municipal District commented: "This funding will enable clearing of drains and the Blackstick Stream, new culverts with enhanced capacity and raising of a section of the Bog Road."
The work will commence in the Summer to minimise disruption to the school community.
