Cork County Council is also advancing improvement plans to the Town Park which would include new walking paths, significant landscaping, public lighting, a featured grass mound area for children as well as an enhanced pedestrian access to the park.

Commenting on the works, Mayor of the County of Cork Cllr Patrick Gerard Murphy said: "Cork County Council is fully aware of how important communal features are, from community halls to parks and playgrounds. These are key areas in every community and serve a very important purpose, for recreation, for socialisation and for the creation of the quality of life offering that makes Cork a great place in which to live."

The newly refurbished Charleville Playground is set to open in mid-July.
