The new development will include a six lane pool, 13 metre long multiuse pool, a gymnasium and fitness suites, changing facilities, cafeteria and associated accommodation.
PJ McLoughlin and Sons Limited has been selected to deliver the project, which will follow the Nearly Zero Energy Building directive (EPBD) in pursuing the highest level of energy conservation, both in design and running costs.

Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Councillor Mark Ward marked the beginning of construction with a sod-turning ceremony yesterday, 20 May.
Speaking at the event, Cllr Ward said: "The construction of Lucan Swimming Pool will add to the existing excellent sport and recreation facilities provided by the Council and in particular benefit the Lucan area."
The development will be funded by a grant of €3.8 million from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport. South Dublin County Council will contribute €9.8 million to the capital cost.
Construction works are expected to take 20 months to complete.
