New Support Scheme To Kickstart Bioenergy Industry In Ireland

A new support scheme has been announced which provides operational support for biomass boilers and anaerobic digestion heating systems.

Irish BioEnergy Association (IrBEA) believes the initiative, which is part of the Support Scheme for Renewable Heat (SSRH), will kick start the bioenergy industry in Ireland and mobilise the renewable heat sector.

The scheme is designed to replace fossil fuel heating systems by heat pumps and by heat from biomass or anaerobic digestion. The SSRH will support commercial, industrial, agricultural and other non-domestic heat users and tariffs have been calculated to compensate the difference between renewable technologies and the use of fossil fuels. The Government aims to reduce carbon emissions by 11Mt over the lifetime of the scheme.
