Irish Water is moving forward with plans to improve the wastewater infrastructure at Portmarnock Bridge in County Dublin.
The utility has lodged a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) to An Bord Pleanála for local lands to facilitate the project.
The wastewater pumping station at Portmarnock Bridge currently operates at full capacity. This means that during storms, the system is overloaded and overflows to the Sluice River. To reduce the risk of this, Irish Water plans to build a replacement pumping station with over twice the capacity of the existing station that includes storm water storage and new sewer network assets.
When complete, the Portmarnock Wastewater Project will benefit the local community by increasing wastewater capacity in the area, which will facilitate future growth and development, and protect the environment by reducing overflows to the Sluice River.
