Mayo Road Realignment Scheme Launched

A road scheme has been launched in County Mayo which will see 1.8km of the N26 at Cloongullane Bridge in Swinford realigned.

The 2km-long project also includes the development of an 83m single span bridge over the River Moy.

The works, which are ahead of schedule, are now under ecological supervision due to the proximity to the sensitive River Moy Special Area of Conservation (SAC). Detailed Topographical Surveys are underway, as well as preparations to divert utilities/services away from the road corridor.

An Bord Pleanála approved the development plans in December 2018.

Pat Staunton, Senior Executive Engineer with the National Roads Office, Mayo County Council, is managing the project, with consultants Roughan O'Donovan-AECOM carrying out the detailed design.

The main contract is expected to go to tender in November 2019, with a start date on site in spring 2020.
