Contractor Coffey Northumbrian has commenced work to improve the water supply in Ferns, Co Wexford.
The firm is replacing ageing water mains in Main Street on behalf of Irish Water.
These works will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages and will ensure a reliable supply of water to customers and local businesses in the area. This also forms part of Irish Water's National Leakage Reduction Programme which will see over €500 million invested in the public water network over the next four years.
Over 298 metres of old cast iron water mains will be replaced with high density polyethylene (plastic) pipes throughout the project.
The works are due for completion by September 2019.
