The government has been criticised over its failure to deliver on an analysis of the impact of fuel poverty on vulnerable households.

Recommended by the Committee in March 2019, the review was launched to delve into the extent of fuel poverty across Ireland.

The Departments of Climate Action, Finance and Public Expenditure have not progressed this review, forcing the Climate Change Committee to stall its work. Members have been unable to report on the carbon tax issue due to the absence of analysis.

Fianna Fáil representative Timmy Dooley has slammed Fine Gael for the lack of progress.

Outlining the proposed review, Deputy Dooley said: "In the Committee's March report, Fianna Fáil secured a recommendation that the government would introduce specific measures to protect those vulnerable to fuel poverty, namely by ring-fencing carbon tax revenues to assist homeowners undertake energy efficiency measures such as retrofitting, insulation and the installation of solar panels.

"The government needs to play its part now and ensure that its Departments undertake the analysis committed to in the report."
