Irish construction manufacturer Kingspan has been recognised at the recent Ireland France Business Awards 2019.

The global firm was announced as the winners of the Special Award for Impact on Climate Change. They will be presented with the award in November at an awards ceremony in Paris.

The awards - run by the France Ireland Chamber of Commerce and NetworkIrlande - celebrate excellence within the Franco-Irish business community. The two organisations aim to strengthen the business relationships between France and Ireland.

Commenting on the award win, Bianca Wong, Global Head of Sustainability at Kingspan, said: "We are thrilled to receive this prestigious award recognising our commitment in the fight against climate change. Kingspan is working in partnership with industry to create a built environment that has a positive environmental and social impact, so it is wonderful to receive this recognition for the work we've done so far."

This accolade recognises Kingspan's 2011 commitment to have all its facilities worldwide powered by renewable energy on an aggregated basis by 2020. The business is now committing to achieve Net Energy and Carbon positive manufacturing by 2030.

This also follows on from Kingspan's recent Green Economy Mark classification from the London Stock Exchange. Launched in October, the mark identifies companies and listed funds that generate between 50% and 100% of total annual revenues from products and services that contribute to the global green economy.

Gene Murtagh, CEO of Kingspan added: "At Kingspan, we are passionate about addressing the impact that building materials have on the carbon footprint of buildings and its effect on our planet. As a business, we are constantly challenging ourselves in partnership with the industry to work towards a more sustainable future. Achieving Net Zero Energy by 2020 is just the beginning and we will continue to ensure that our Planet Passionate strategy and commitments are embedded in everything Kingspan does globally."
