Two towns in County Cork have secured funding for rural regeneration works.
Cork County Council was awarded €2.6 million through the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF) for Macroom and Kanturk.
Approximately €2m of the funds will support the Briery Gap redevelopment in Macroom while the remainder will go towards the delivery of infrastructural development works that will facilitate the future growth and development of Kanturk.
Welcoming the funding, Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Christopher O'Sullivan said: "This is great news for County Cork. A huge amount of work has gone into bringing both projects to this stage and credit is due to everyone involved. The significant sums awarded to these projects are reflective of Cork County Council's investment in and commitment to the regeneration and development of our rural towns."
Cork County Council Chief Executive Tim Lucey added: "The RRDF funding announced today contributes significantly to Cork County Council's own investment in these areas and further strengthens our commitment to rural regeneration in County Cork."
