On the back of Intel's recent green light for a new manufacturing plant in Leixlip, a project has been approved to upgrade its power network.
National electricity operator EirGrid has secured planning permission from An Bord Pleanála to upgrade the network supplying power to the plant.
The Capital Project 1029 will involve the development of a new 220 kV electricity substation adjacent to the Intel plant and new electricity circuits to the facility.
The new substation will connect to the existing Maynooth-Woodland 220 kV transmission line located to the north of the facility.
Power will continue to be provided to Intel by 110 kV circuits and an upgrade of the Maynooth-Woodland line will also be required at a later point.
