Scottish energy firm SSE has secured capacity contracts for its four plants in Ireland.
The company landed the contracts for 2021/22 during the T-2 Capacity Auction, where the System Operators provisionally awarded 7,511.5MW MW of Total Capacity Contracts to electricity generators and demand side response units at an auction clearing price of €45,950/MW.
This sees contracts confirmed for SSE's Great Island CCGT plant (389MW) in Co Wexford, Tarbert power plant (465MW) in Co Kerry, and two smaller peaker plants at Rhode in Co Offaly (94MW) and Tawnaghmore in Co Mayo (94MW).
Mark Hayward, Director of Operations for SSE Thermal, said: "We're delighted to have provisionally secured Capacity Contracts for all four of our power stations in Ireland for 2021/22. Following the T-1 results earlier this month, this is further great news for our business and our teams in Ireland, as we look to provide flexible and reliable energy to complement increasing renewable generation and safeguard customers' power supplies."
The Provisional Results are subject to approval by the Regulatory Authorities and are expected to be confirmed on 30 January 2020.
