Galway City Council has launched an analysis into the flood defences scheduled for Salthill.
The comes after Storm Elsa hit the west coast, causing a tide just over a metre lower than high tide at Salthill.
O'Reilly, who is chairperson of the Galway City strategic policy committee on climate action, commented: "The flood defences that we are putting in place over next year may not be able to cope with this type of unexpected flooding. The council is undertaking an analysis following Storm Elsa, however as things stand there is an increasing and significant risk for Galway from Climate Change; a risk that was not anticipated when this project began."
