A major refurbishment project in Killarney has seen the opening of a new Arts and Cultural Centre for the area.

The former cultural centre on East Avenue was redeveloped to make way for the new ANAM facility, which is a flexible, adaptable and contemporary space available to host arts and cultural performances.

The upgraded venue boasts an indoor seating capacity of 67 seats, with an option to utilise the auditorium as a stage area with outdoor seating of 131 seats.

Opening ANAM, Minister of State for Tourism & Sport, Brendan Griffin TD welcomed the huge potential the development has to enhance the already excellent offering to visitors to Killarney, as well as the local community.

The Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, and Kerry County Council worked together to deliver the project.

Cllr Michael Gleeson, Cathaoirleach of Killarney Municipal District, added: "Killarney town and the wider Municipal District has a rich heritage in the arts, both in terms of performance, music, dance, theatre and visual arts. For community, youth and local arts and drama groups to have an opportunity to utilise this space provides them with an outlet to showcase their talents to the wider community."
