Concern Over Govt U-Turn On Ringsend Housing

Concern is beginning to grow that the government has done a U-turn on housing plans for the Glass Bottle site in Ringsend after a string of delays.

An agreement was reached in May 2017 to deliver 900 social and affordable homes out of 3,500 planned for the site in Poolbeg West.

Labour Party leader Brendan Howlin joined Dublin Bay South candidate, Senator Kevin Humphreys at the site this morning, 15 January, to highlight the failure of the government agreement.

Senator Humphreys said: "This is just a classic example of Fine Gael reneging on plans for social and affordable housing and failing to deliver on a vacant site that is the legacy of the Fianna Fáil crash.

"When we should be seeing shovels in the ground, we still don't even have planning permission for access to the site.

"We now need certainty and detail as to how the housing and rental model will work, what the cost of the units will be and how people will qualify.

"People are genuinely concerned that the Government has done a U-turn on plans for the site and that local residents will miss an opportunity of buying a home in their locality."
