Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy has been called to introduce emergency legislation for renters across the country.
Labour has urged Minister Murphy to bring in a rent freeze and a temporary ban on evictions.
The party's Dublin Fingal representative, Duncan Smith TD believes the measures should be introduced to protect renters.
"A rent freeze has been necessary for quite some time, but this issue has never been more pertinent than it is right now," Deputy Smith said.
"Legislation to prevent landlords issuing a notice to quit or evicting tenants during this time is also necessary.
"The Minister for Housing needs to let renters know where they stand in the eye of this crisis. Many people are rightly worried that a loss of income at this time will lead to a loss of their home.
"We need to see emergency measures in place to ensure those who are renting feel secure as possible in their homes over the coming weeks and months."
