A number of young climate activists are calling for urgent action on the climate emergency.
Green Party MLA Rachel Woods chaired a meeting of the All Party Group and young climate activists from NICCY Youth Panel, Northern Ireland Youth Forum, Fridays For Future and Youth Climate Association NI joined the All Party Group on a Skype Call and urged government to take urgent action on the climate crisis.
She said: "The young people had a clear message to all elected representatives and our Executive Ministers including Minister Poots - take urgent action now to prevent irreversible climate breakdown. The young people get it, they understand the urgency and know that their future is at stake. Climate legislation for Northern Ireland must be enacted.
"I'm pleased that the All Party Group provided a voice to young people this morning, but it's time to act on rather than continue to sit on our hands. The science on climate crisis is clear and irrefutable. This is an emergency situation and the Environment Minister and all Executive Ministers need to act on that.
"The NI Assembly declared a climate emergency earlier this year. The New Decade New Approach Deal contained many climate commitments, including the creation of a Environmental Protection Agency. However, there has been little to no progress on these developments to date."
