Contractor Ward and Burke has completed work to improve the water supply in Maynooth, Kildare.
The project involved the construction of 1km of new water mains along Parson Street and Mill Street in Maynooth town centre and were carried out in line with Covid-19 measures, on behalf of Irish Water. In order to minimise disruption a phased approach with areas of works limited to short sections was adopted for delivery of this project.
Speaking about the project Joe Carroll, Regional Lead with Irish Water, said: "These upgrades are part of a significant investment by Irish Water to upgrade the water network across Kildare. The works involved some short-term water shut-offs and traffic management measures which we understand causes inconvenience and we would like to thank the local community for their patience while we completed these essential works."
The works were carried out as part of Irish Water's national Leakage Reduction Programme which will see an investment of over €500 million to reduce the level of leakage across the country by fixing and replacing aging water mains.
