Fine Gael has welcomed the publication of the Government's Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Bill.
Dublin Fingal TD and Fine Gael Spokesperson for Climate Action, Alan Farrell, said it is a "positive step that will set Ireland on course for carbon neutrality by 2050".
He said: "The Bill builds on the progressive action Ireland has taken in recent years, notably including the Climate Action Plan published by the Fine Gael led Government in 2019.
"Just as climate change effects all sectors of society, we must all contribute to the national changes needed to help us reach our goals. No one sector will be able to carry this burden for the others; we need a whole of society approach.
"The Bill will also strengthens the role of the Climate Change Advisory Council, enabling it to propose appropriate carbon budgets to government. This will help us reduce our overall impact on the environment and the lasting impact we leave on the climate."
