NI Water Unveils 'Be Prepared For Winter' Campaign

NI Water has unveiled its 'Be Prepared for Winter' campaign.

Des Nevin, NI Water's Director of Customer and Operations, commented: "It is that time of year when we are asking the public to prepare their properties against the effects of freezing temperatures. However, with the continued impact of Covid-19 on our community, it is more vital than ever that householders, landlords and businesses are ready for winter. This means taking action now to ensure pipes are well insulated and everyone in the property knows where the stop valve is located. It is also vital you have a plan to ensure your property is protected if it has to close suddenly for a period of time or through the holiday period.

"On a wider scale, the impact of thousands of litres of water pouring out of burst water pipes can put a huge strain on the distribution network. The Covid-19 crisis has shone a light directly on how vital clean water and sanitation are to everyone. Insulating your pipework is an essential action to protect your water supply and that of your neighbours."

Infrastructure Minister, Nichola Mallon, said: "During the current health pandemic we see more than ever how NI Water is delivering one of the most critical services we have. As we approach winter, whilst NI Water will work to ensure our water network is ready for colder weather, there are simple steps that we can all take to prepare our homes and businesses by ensuring our pipes are protected and well insulated.

"Burst pipes cause devastation. Not only do they put pressure on the water supply network but on a personal level can cause structural damage to a property and cause lasting damage to treasured personal items like photos, which just cannot be replaced. Please act now – just a few simple steps could save you from the distress, cost and inconvenience of a burst pipe."
