Work is being carried out to replace problematic water mains in Ballymartin North, Lismore.
The works involve the replacement of approximately 1.75 kilometres of problematic water mains with polyethylene (plastic) pipes, with crews sceduled to commenence at Ballymartin North on 19 April 2021. The works are being carried out as part of Irish Water's National Leakage Reduction Programme and will signficantly improve the water supply in the area.
Joe Carroll, Irish Water's Networks Programme Regional Lead said: "As well as replacing the problematic mains itself, the works will involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers' property boundaries and connecting it to the customers' water supply. Where the existing service connections on the public side are lead these will be replaced as part of this improvement work. We are delighted to be able to carry out this work so that the homes and businesses of Ballymartin North, Lismore can enjoy a safer and more reliable water supply."
The benefits of the works will include a more reliable supply as the replacement of water mains and service connections will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages. It will also improve on leakage,reducing the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground. In addition, it will deliver an improved operation and maintenance delivering cost savings by providing improved water network operation that will require less maintenance in the future.
