Water production at the Dromin Water Treatment Plant in Kerry has been temporarily stopped following an oil leak at the River Feale.
Irish Water customers in Listowel and surrounding areas may experience low water pressure and/or water outages for a period of time as the pollution incident is managed.
Irish Water's R
edmond Burke said: "We have had to temporarily shut down the Water Treatment Plant at Dromin as the oil leak in the River Feale is close to the water intake point at Scartleigh. As a result, customers in Listowel and surrounding areas may experience outages and low pressure tonight and tomorrow morning. In the interim we ask customers to conserve water wherever possible. Simple water conservation efforts can have a big impact on reducing demand on the supply. There are tips on how to conserve water in your home on the Water Conservation section of our website. However, it is important that people continue to follow the HSE guidance on hand washing."
