John Craddock Ltd has made significant progress on essential works for the Howth water supply scheme to safeguard the water supply for homes and businesses in the area.

The project will improve the security of the drinking water supply for the area and will allow for social and economic growth and development in Howth.

Since commencing on site in May 2019, six kilometres of watermain have been constructed including at three railway crossings. In addition a new pumping station and chlorination building has been constructed at Dungriffen Reservoir. Further works are required at the reservoir site to integrate the new infrastructure into the existing network. These works will start on Monday, 10 May and are scheduled to be completed by Saturday, 15 May. Whilst every effort is being made to avoid water outages some customers in the Howth area may experience intermittent supply disruptions during this time. Following completion of the works it may take a number of hours for normal water supply to resume.

William McKnight, Irish Water, said: "The construction of the new watermain in Howth is vital to ensure a safer and a more secure water supply to homes and businesses in the area and will also support the economic and social development of the area. The works in Howth form part of a significant investment of almost €22 million by Irish Water to safeguard the water supply in Fingal. Upgrading the water infrastructure will ensure that customers in Howth, Malahide, Swords and Balbriggan will have a more reliable and secure supply which will result in fewer disruptions to their water supply. Irish Water understands this type of work can be inconvenient and we will ensure our work crews make every effort to minimise any disruption these works may cause.
