The new Climate Action Bill, which has now passed in the Dáil, will help Ireland "thrive in the years ahead while tackling one of the greatest challenges of our times", Fine Gael Dublin Bay North TD and Party Chair Richard Bruton has said.

A member of the Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action, Deputy Bruton, said: "I am delighted to have had the opportunity to develop the concept in Government that underpins the Climate Action Bill.

"This legislation is an important milestone in confronting the climate crisis. It creates the framework within which every part of our community can work together to reshape our economy and society to be sustainable for future generations.

"It is only the beginning of work that needs to be done. It is a challenging transition, but the longer we delay, the less equipped will our country be to thrive in the years ahead.

"The ultimate aim of this legislation is to ensure that our communities will be secure in a zero-carbon world: that our farming sector will be resilient; that our enterprises will be competitive; and that our homes will be robust.

"In making this transition, we must ensure that the adjustment is borne in a fair manner and that no one is left behind. This has been and will continue to be front and centre of Climate Action planning," Deputy Bruton concluded.
