Farrans Construction has been appointed to replace old watermains from Ballaghadeereen to the Old Lung River Bridge, along the L1244, in Tibohine, Co Roscommon.
The old water mains which were prone to frequent bursts and leakage and caused water supply disruptions for customers in the area will be replaced with new high density polyethylene (plastic) pipes.
Declan Cawley, Irish Water, explained: "Irish Water are currently working to replace approximately 1.9km of water mains along the L1244 in Tibohine, from the Lung River Bridge to Michael Cooney & Sons Homevalue. The additional works along Ballaghadeereen will benefit customers in the area by strengthening and reinforcing the water network, and minimising disruptions in their water supply by reducing leakage and unplanned outages when bursts occur on the existing main.
"Upon completion, there will be significant improvements in network performance and levels of customer service in this area in terms of efficiency and security of supply."
The additional works are due to commence at the end August from Ballaghadeereen to the Old Lung River Bridge and are due to be completed by November.
