Work has begun in the Albert Street area of Belfast to improve and enhance the streetscape.
This £1.5 million public realm scheme will see an upgrade of footways, landscaping and new street lighting. The Department for Communities is funding the project.
Launching the scheme, Minister for Communities Deirdre Hargey said: "I am delighted to announce the investment of £1.5m from my Department towards a new public realm scheme in Albert Street, Belfast.
"This is a major investment for the area and will help to improve the streetscape for the local community and the numerous visitors to the area who visit the historic cathedral. This funding will complement previous public realm works funded by the Department and is part of our ongoing commitment to the regeneration of our town and city centres.
"This scheme will unlock wider physical and social regeneration in the area by providing a focus for environmental upgrading, improve access to amenities and economic activity as well as enhance the quality of the streets and landscape, which will boost the appearance of the entire area.
"This injection of funding will benefit local retailers, businesses, residents and visitors. Initiatives such as these help to make our towns and cities more appealing which contributes to their long term viability and prosperity and sustains our local economy."
