The government has reaffirmed its commitment to the Metro Link and DART West projects in Dublin amid rumours suggesting the key transport schemes have been delayed.
Speaking in the Dáil Eireann yesterday, 21 September, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar stated there has been no government decision to delay these projects and he was not aware of any proposal to delay them.
Speaking about the update on the projects, Fine Gael TD Alan Farrell said: "Metro Link, as everyone in North Dublin will know, is vital for the future of our community.
"We are among the fastest growing populations in the country, the necessity of providing a modern transport network cannot be understated.
"As a representative of Dublin Fingal, any significant delay in the delivery of this project is unacceptable to me.
"The revised National Development Plan is currently being finalised and I believe will prioritise the delivery of MetroLink. This project is vital for Dublin's transport network and will assist us in reducing our transport emissions, a key priority for Government. It will also provide much needed connections between Dublin City, Dublin Airport and Swords.
"Transport Infrastructure Ireland has indicated as recently as two weeks ago that additional months will be required for Metrolink, prior to proceeding to the planning phase of this project.
"I look forward to continuing my work with TII and my colleagues in Government to deliver this project as quickly as possible."
