Work is progressing well on the upgrade of a watermain in Cork City.
Irish Water and Cork City Council are working together to ensure the main is improved on Barrack Street.
To facilitate the rest of the scheme, there may be a disruption to the water supply for homes and businesses from 10pm on Thursday, September 30 until 1am on Friday, 01 October.
During these essential works, homes and businesses in the below areas area may be impacted by reduced water pressure and water outages. Following the completion of improvement works; water supply may take 2-3 hours to return as water refills the network.
Areas that may be effected are as follows; Evergreen Street, Barrack Street, Keyser's Hill, Friar Street, Friars Walk, Mount Sion Road, Tower Street, Reed's Square, Industry Street, Stephen Street, St. Finbarr's Street, St. Brigid Street, St. Nessan Street, St. Kevin's Street, Bonaventure Place, Mount Carmel Road, Presentation Place, Townsend Place, Friars Walk Mews, Maymount, Annmount, O'Connor Ville, Leary's Place, Ros Barra Avenue, Millbrook Lawn and surrounding areas in Cork City.
These works are being carried out as part of Irish Water's national Leakage Reduction Programme which will, over the next four years, see €500 million invested to reduce the level of leakage across the country by fixing and replacing ageing water mains. This will ensure a safe, reliable water supply which is vital for our health, our environment and our growing population and economy.
