The experience at Dublin's Docklands has been enhanced with the installation of new Light Boxes.
Approximately seven boxes were installed in the area, each containing old photos from the Docklands showing how the area has evolved over generations of history. Four are located on North Wall Quay and three are on Sir John Rogerson's Quay.
Led by Dublin City Council's Events Section in partnership with the Docklands Office and DCC's Libraries, the idea is part of the City Recovery initiative. The photos came from Dublin City Libraries collection which contains thousands of images which showcase the history of Dublin City.
Commenting on the new-look Docklands, Simon Clarke, Administrative Officer, Events Section, said: "The boxes are 1.8metres high, use solar powered light, require no cabling, are reusable, and once it gets dark will light up for 6-8 hours. It's a great way of promoting the history and vibrancy of the Docklands area."
This initiative, which began in June of this year when 10 Light Boxes were installed in Smithfield, is being done on a trial basis. If successful it may become a permanent addition to both these areas and may also be trialled in other parts of the City.
