An expenditure budget of €240 million for 2022 has been agreed in Cork city, representing a €14m annual increase.

Elected Members of Cork City Council approved the Budget, with 24 voting for and seven against.

This annual increase is due to a rise in budget to Homeless Services of €4.5m, an increase in the Capital Advance Leasing Facility/Mortgage to Rent of €3.9m, an increase in funding for road resurfacing of €0.4m and an increase in payroll of €4.8m.

In July 2021, Cork City Council voted to increase the Local Adjustment Factor (LAF) of Local Property Tax in Cork City by 9%, which represents an additional €1.9 million income to the local authority in 2022.

The Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Colm Kelleher, said: "This budget enables Cork City Council to not only continue to deliver essential services but also build on the progress that has been made in achieving its strategic goals, making Cork a better place to live, work and invest in. Much great work has been done in the life of this Council to date and we now have the opportunity to continue this momentum."

Cork City Council Chief Executive, Ann Doherty added: "The budget provides funding measures aimed at addressing some strategically important areas and provides a reasonable balance across the competing objective of developing the social, cultural, economic, environmental and infrastructural needs of the city in a socially inclusive manner that Council is charged with progressing."
