Green Light For Community Pollinator Gardens In Antrim

Plans are moving forward to develop two new Community Pollinator Gardens in the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council area.

Crumlin Integrated Primary School and Templepatrick Action Community Association have secured funding from the Live Here Love Here Rural Community Pollinator Grant Scheme to move forward with planting at Crumlin Glen and Wallace Park respectively.

This pilot scheme, which was granted permission by the Council, is entirely funded by DEARA via Live Here Love Here and provides grants to community groups and schools wishing to establish, enhance or develop a local community pollinator garden to increase the biodiversity significance in the area. Both projects align with the local Biodiversity and Climate Change Action Plans. The two groups will now work with the Council to agree suitable locations.

Welcoming the news, Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Councillor Billy Webb said: "The addition of two new Community Pollinator Gardens is great news for the Borough. We must all make small changes now to help with the Global Climate Change issues facing us all."
