A further 20 trees have been planted as part of the NI 100 Tree Planting project.
Led by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, the project was brought forward in 2021 to mark the centenary of the foundation of Northern Ireland in 1921.
Chair of the Council, Councillor Errol Thompson was recently joined by pupils from Omagh County Primary School and Willowbridge School in Enniskillen to officially plant the new trees.
Speaking about the initiative, Councillor Thompson said: "In its entirety, this initiative will see the planting of 700 native trees across the District, 100 in each District Electoral Area. It is our aim to plant more trees in the District each year and we are already working with Woodland Trust to plant over 3000 more trees in 2022 which is a theme under the Council's Draft Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan, which is currently out for consultation."
Every tree will provide homes for native wildlife and increase biodiversity across the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council area. Planting the right tree in the right place is very important and by planting native trees we are also helping to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change.
