Key projects in the County Limerick areas of Askeaton, Doon and Patrickswell are set to move forward with €1 million funding support.
This comes after the latest round of the Town and Village Renewal Scheme, which focuses on projects which can help to enhance rural towns and villages, with a particular emphasis on stimulating economic development.
In Doon, funding of €250,000 will support the development of a community services and e-hub facility. A further €250,000 was awarded to the Askeaton project to build a parklet on a derelict site within the West Square.
Approximately €500,000 was granted to the town of Patrickswell for the development of a community hub to enhance community services to include community hall, community café, meeting rooms and provision of hot-desking facilities.
Welcoming the news, Mayor of the City and County of Limerick Cllr Daniel Butler said: "Investment in our towns and villages across Limerick is important if we are to make them vibrant and attractive places for people to live and work. Our priorities have shifted over the past two years so it's important that we have the infrastructure and facilities for people. These projects in the three towns and villages come from engagements and discussions with the communities involved, which can act as a template for future developments."
Gordon Daly, Director of Community, Tourism & Culture in Limerick City and County Council added: "The funding announcement for these three innovative projects is further evidence of the excellent leadership being shown right across our rural communities in Limerick in improving the quality of life for all who live there. We look forward to working closely with each town and village in 2022 in the delivery of these important projects."
