CEF Writes To Chancellor Over Red Diesel Rebate

The Construction Employers Federation (CEF) has written to Chancellor Rishi Sunak as the demise of the rebate on red diesel approaches.

Writing to Sunak, CEF explained the impact that the rebate removal will have on local construction and seeked a phased approach over a number of years to mitigate the step-change in costs. 


Speaking about the upcoming demise of the rebate on red diesel on 01 April, CEF stated: "With no readily available alternative to diesel, this change will do nothing to contribute to the industry's carbon reduction efforts and will merely impose additional costs. We have also joined forces with other UK partner organisations in lobbying efforts at Westminster and vocalising the concerns around site security, exacerbated by the current rising costs of fuel. Now is not the time for such a punitive change in legislation."
