Plans For Water Mains Replacements In Ballinasloe Announced

Construction News Image
A programme of water main replacements is set to begin in Ballinsloe, Co Galway.

Irish Water is leading the scheme, which will see residents benefit from an improved water supply.

Work will involve the replacement of water mains at the Creagh Junction, following on from similar works from Mackney Roundabout to Banerton's Garage.

The benefit from these works for homes and businesses in the Galway town are immense with fewer outages expected to impact customers. The projects will also reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.

This project will ensure customers in Ballinasloe experience fewer disruptions to their water supply from this summer on.

Gerry O'Donnell, Leakage Reduction Programme Regional Lead with Irish Water, said: "Working in partnership with Galway County Council, we have prioritised leakage reduction works to those areas which need it most. These two projects, which will see the replacement of almost 2km of old water mains, will significantly reduce the number of bursts and outages in Ballinasloe.

"The works will safeguard the supply in the region now and into the future and support growth and development in the area."

Works on both projects are due to be completed early this summer.

Traffic management will be in place to facilitate the works between the Creagh Road (R357) and Church Street (R446) junctions, but local and emergency traffic will be maintained at all times.
