The Trim Air Quality Project in County Meath has taken a major step forward.
A deal has been struck with Trilateral Research to deliver the key project.
Meath County Council is commencing the project through the Department of Rural & Community Development's Digital Innovation Fund to monitor the air quality in Trim over a 20-month period. Air quality sensors will be installed in a number of locations in Trim, with a dashboard subsequently being made available for the general public to view real-time data from the sensors.
This project will assist Meath County Council to monitor and improve air quality if required and help raise awareness of the importance of air quality. The Council also hopes to add additional social impact by including school children in the project.
This project ties in with Trim Decarbonisation Zone, to reduce emissions within the town by 51% by 2030 in line with national targets, and Global Goals for Cities – the European URBACT project that Trim is involved in to localise the Sustainable Development Goals. In addition to air quality monitoring, the Trim Air Quality project aims to facilitate additional data sets such as weather data and traffic data.
The air quality data collected will inform the provision of sustainable solutions to improve air quality and reduce emissions within Trim and inform the community of the air quality in Trim town.
