Work is moving forward with conservation works at Dublin's Victorian Fruit and Vegetable Market.
Dublin City Council is now seeking to appoint a Design Team to lead the works at St Mary's Lane.
The project will secure this landmark building as a market for future generations, as well as a focal point in the local community and a catalyst for regeneration in the area.
A conservation specialist was appointed to identify works, methodology and specifications for refurbishment and conservation works in order to ensure the highest standard of protection for the building. This Tender for a Design Team to detail those specifications will complete in Q3 2022.
Significant specialist conservation and structural works are required to safeguard the building. Dublin City Council has been successful in securing preliminary funding approval from the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund for these works. Full approval is not expected until into next year.
Phase 1 of the Project, a multi-use games area, public realm improvements and a car park / loading area at St Mary's Lane, has been delivered in 2018 under the planning permission granted (Part 8).
