Burst Water Main Impacts Supply On Mayo Coastline

Residents in the Barnatra area of Belmullet along the Co Mayo coastline have been affected by a disrupted water supply.

A team of Irish Water and Mayo County Council engineers have been deployed to site this afternoon following a burst water main.

The crew is working to repair the trunk main burst and restore water as quickly as possible to customers served by the Erris Regional Water Supply Scheme.

Every effort is being made to maintain supply to as many customers as possible, but the burst has caused reduced pressure or supply interruptions for customers in a number of areas including Inver/Pollathomas, Barnatra, Muings, Foxpoint, Derrnameel/Derrycorrib and Doohoma/Derrycorrib Group Water Scheme. Customers in Glencullen, Glenamoy, Doohoma and in the Carrowmore Lake areas may also be affected.

Repairs are expected to be complete by 10pm tonight, 05 September. Typically, it takes two to three hours following repairs for normal supply to restore to all customers affected by an unplanned outage.

Speaking about the repair works Gerard Greally, Irish Water said: "The repairs in the Barnatra area are being conducted as quickly as possible to minimise disruption to the community and restore water for all customers.

"We understand the inconvenience unplanned outages can have on customers and we appreciate their patience as we work to repair the burst and return the water supply."
