A programme of water works has been scheduled to take place in Ballyreehan, Co Kerry, beginning later this month.
Kerry County Council and Irish Water are leading the works, which will involve the replacement of approximately 280 metres of old water mains with new polyethylene pipes.
When complete, this project will bring to an end the frequent bursts and outages experienced by customers.
These works are being carried out as part of Irish Water's National Leakage Reduction Programme and will see a significant improvement to the water supply in the area.
Speaking about the project, Irish Water's Steven Blennerhassett said: "The section of works will take place on the L1027, Ballyreehan Road and will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers' property boundaries and connecting it to the customers' water supply."
Traffic management will be in place during this time however local and emergency traffic will always be maintained. Diversions for through traffic will be signposted on approach. The works may involve some short-term water interruptions and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water interruptions.
Steven added: "Replacing these old and problematic pipes in Ballyreehan will reduce the drinking water lost to leakage and will bring an all-round improvement to water quality for the local community. It will also deliver cost savings by providing improved water network operation that will require less maintenance in the future."
