Environmental Improvement Scheme To Enhance Enniskillen Town Centre

A new scheme has been announced for Enniskillen to improve the town centre.

The Environmental Improvement Scheme will begin at Quay Lane North Car Park on 26 September 2022, supported with funding from the Department for Communities (DfC).

Work will include improvements to the footways, car park, street lighting, drainage and street furniture. During completion of the works, sections of the car park will be closed in the immediate vicinity of the works.

The project will be undertaken by FP McCann Ltd and will be completed in three phases to minimise disruption to residents and businesses. Phase 1 includes drainage, street lighting, kerbing and resurfacing improvements at the eastern side of the car park. During Phase 2, footpaths will be undertaken to include natural stone similar to the town centre footpaths which were recently completed as part of the Enniskillen Public Realm Scheme. The final phase of the scheme will include works to improve drainage, street lighting, kerbing and resurfacing at the western section of the car park.

Speaking about the Environmental Improvement Scheme, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Barry McElduff said: "I am delighted to see the works at Quay Lane North Car Park, Enniskillen commence.

"The scheme will complement the works recently completed in the town centre as part of the Enniskillen Public Realm Scheme and they will help to make the area welcoming, accessible and safe. It will also improve connectivity to the town centre for all which is important to ensure that our towns remain vibrant.

"The Council is committed to working in partnership with others to help to improve our District for everyone and ensure that it is an attractive place to live, work, visit and invest in."

The improvement works are scheduled to be completed in February 2023 and the Project Team will liaise with the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) Roads during the project in relation to proposed traffic management.
