Limerick Council Claims Three Local Government Awards

Work from Limerick City and County Council has been celebrated at the recent Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards 2022. 

The Council picked up three awards from five nominations, winning in the Supporting Sustainable Communities, Promoting Economic Development and the Enhancing Urban Environment categories. 

Commenting on the award wins, chief executive of Limerick City and County Council Pat Daly said: "These three wins show, the work being done on a daily basis by the Limerick City and County Council teams. Supporting sustainable communities, promoting economic development and enhancing our urban environment are key pillars for the future of Limerick and we are proud to have been recognised for our work in these areas."

Sarah Newell Senior Executive Officer, Strategy & Non LA Housing Construction, commented: "The Housing team are delighted with this award. The provision of starter new build homes at a discount will make a real difference to Limerick households who have limited prospect of getting onto the housing ladder at the moment. We are delighted to be handing over keys to a number of families under this scheme before Christmas."

Sean McGlynn, Active Travel, Limerick City and County Council, added: "The Active Travel Team are delighted with the recent acknowledgement at the Excellence in Local Government Awards Enhancing the Urban Environment for the Castletroy Greenway. The new greenway is helping to encouraging walking and cycling by the very nature of its location, linking places of work and education to homes and to community services and recreational facilities."
