Meath Water Mains Improvements Complete

Construction News Image
A programme of water mains improvements in Trim, Co Meath, has officially reached completion.

Irish Water and Meath County Council worked to replace 1.7 km of old and problematic pipes along the Dublin Road area of Trim as part of the utility's National Leakage Reduction Programme.

Matt Thomson, Leakage Reduction Programme Regional Lead at Irish Water, said: "We are delighted to be making significant progress with essential upgrades for Trim with the completion of these works along the Dublin Road. In the last month we have also replaced ageing Back Yard Service connections to a number of homes on Castle Street which were a significant source of leakage and supply disruption for customers as well as major upgrades to the water network along Market Street and Bridge Street. The complexity of these works in urban areas and the nature of the underground network, while posing challenges at times, have been overcome. Trim is beginning to see the benefits of our strategic investment in the area with homes and businesses enjoying long-term improvements to supply.

"Though the journey continues, this is a fantastic achievement and I would like to thank the people of Trim for engaging with us, supporting our vision and helping us achieve these results."

Mark Rice, Executive Engineer with Meath County Council, added: "As a result of the collaboration between Meath County Council and Irish Water, homes and businesses in Trim are enjoying a more secure and reliable water supply. The works undertaken through the Leakage Reduction Programme will benefit customers by strengthening and reinforcing the water network, reducing leaks and unplanned outages.

"On behalf of Meath County Council, I would like thank these communities for their continued patience while we worked to provide a better water supply."
