Uisce Éireann Secures Top CPD Standard

Uisce Éireann has been recognised for its commitment to professional development with a prestigious award.

The utility was presented with the CPD Accredited Employer Standard by Engineers Ireland in recognition of its continuing professional development (CPD) strategy.

Uisce Éireann supplies drinking water to 80% of the general public, delivered through over 64,000 km of water pipelines. The company also collects wastewater from over 26,000 km of wastewater pipelines and treats some 1,200 million litres of wastewater daily, before discharging it safely back into the environment.

Following the publication of the Framework for the Future Delivery of Water Services by the Department of Housing, Local Government & Heritage and in line with the Water Services Act 2022, Uisce Éireann will assume responsibility for the delivery of all public water services in Ireland on a phased basis during 2023.

Aidan O'Flaherty, Associate Director of CPD at Engineers Ireland, said: "I wish to congratulate Uisce Éireann for its exemplary commitment to professional development and achieving CPD Accredited Employer status.

"Investment in professional development is essential for organisations to grow and develop their people to achieve both organisational and individual objectives. From proactive CPD 'All Hands' engagement initiatives to bring entire engineering communities together to peer support for Chartered Engineer and Fellowship applications and initiatives such as the Female Talent Development Programme and the Water Cross Industry Graduate Programme, Uisce Éireann has a strong commitment to developing its people and will continue to benefit from the strategic approach facilitated by the CPD Accredited Employer standard."

Commenting on the achievement, Niall Gleeson, CEO of Uisce Éireann, added: "We are extremely proud, in Uisce Éireann, of this achievement, which recognises our commitment to the continuous growth of our employees, encouraging their development throughout their careers.

"Uisce Éireann is one of the largest employers of engineers in Ireland, and as we welcome our Local Authority colleagues into one single utility, this strong framework, accredited by Engineers Ireland, will support the continued development of our engineering community as a dedicated, enthusiastic, and highly professional team working together to enable communities to thrive."
