Farrans Achieves Top Marks On Considerate Construction Scheme Audits

NI Firm Farrans Construction has achieved top marks on recent Considerate Constructors Scheme audits.

Farrans is the main contractor on the Govan to Partick Bridge, a fabricated steel cable stayed opening swing bridge, for Glasgow City Council and Glasgow City Region Deal. Our team achieved full marks 45/45 during their audit at the end of March.

The £29.5 million project includes the construction of a new pedestrian/cycle bridge over the River Clyde between Water Row in Govan and Pointhouse Quay in Partick, a connection that will re-establish the historic link between the two areas.

The report said: "This was the second visit to the site with monitoring being undertaken using the revised 2023 CCS code checklist. The site is performing at sustained levels of conformance across all areas of the CCS Code Checklist. Under the respect for the community section, performance remains excellent and I was pleased to note that the team has continued to engage well with local community and supported a wide range of based initiatives and engagement with local universities.

"The performance under protection for the environment also remains excellent with a robust approach to the management, measurement and communication of waste and GHG emission reduction targets. The FC team has also done particularly well to engage the supply chain a concerted programme to reduce GHG emissions and to align with the corporate level NetZero commitment. The site has continued to engage well with the workforce section criteria, and I was pleased to note that the site has developed specific modern slavery training."

In Leeds the team are delivering Live Oasis got 44/45 in their assessment in March. This 20-storey student residential accommodation block in Leeds city centre is being delivered for client Infinity Construction Enterprises.

A total of 212 studio apartments will be provided featuring kitchen, bedroom, en suite, storage and living facilities. The range of communal spaces will include a gym, meeting rooms, multimedia room, communal lounge and kitchen, study spaces, wellbeing lounge and eighth floor roof terrace.

The report said: "It was evident from the discussions with the team that they are very keen to deliver the values of the Considerate Constructors Scheme. Social value is well considered with a detailed plan in place, the targets set have been exceeded in many areas. The welfare facilities provided for the workforce are of the highest standard. A noticeboard is provided in the main reception area which includes a section for community, environmental and workforce and it is great to see the site team promoting and sharing their positive achievements, this area could be further strengthened by also sharing externally. The site team are fully supporting the company on their carbon reduction journey and various figures are provided monthly. It was great to meet the team on what was a very positive visit and I wish them all the best in delivering this high class project."
