Malahide Public Realm Improvements Progress

Construction News Image
A programme of public realm improvements has moved forward in Malahide, Co Dublin.

The Part 8 planning application process has commenced for the New Street development, which will cover the entire length of New Street, including parts of Main Street/The Mall, Ross Terrace, and Strand Street.

The street has significant historical importance, which the proposed development aims to enhance while providing modern public realm improvements. Designs for the area were done thanks to valuable input from the public following an extensive period of public consultation.

Commenting on the plans, Mayor of Fingal Cllr Howard Mahony said: "We are excited to announce these public realm improvements. Our goal is to enhance the area's rich heritage while also providing a modern and beautiful public space for the community to enjoy. We believe that this project will be a great asset to the area, and I look forward to seeing it come to fruition."

All the proposed public realm upgrades have been carefully crafted to improve the area's infrastructure while respecting its heritage and include the widening of footpaths, upgrades to street surfaces, provision of loading bays and accessible parking, installation of cycle stands, new outdoor dining zones and street furniture, and upgrades to public lighting. The project will also include necessary upgrades to water and drainage works.

Plans will be available for the public to view at consult.fingal.ie/en/browse, as well as being available for inspection until 17 May 2023 at the offices of Fingal County Council during normal opening hours. They can also be viewed at Malahide Public Library, Main Street, Malahide, Co. Dublin K36 EW63 (during library opening hours). Submissions or observations with respect to the proposed development must arrive no later than 5pm on 02 June 2023.
