Drinking water in Athy, Newbridge and the surrounding areas of Co Kildare has been deemed safe to drink following a detailed assessment.

Uisce Éireann received samples and testing results, showcasing that the water meets regulatory parameters.

This assessment was delivered following reports of odour issues and abnormal tastes. The utility has also arranged additional specialist sampling for compounds that are known to cause taste and odour issues.

Kevin Love, Regional Asset Operations Lead at Uisce Éireann said: "Our primary focus is the protection of public health. We understand the concerns raised by some customers in relation to the odour and taste of their drinking water and we would like to reassure all customers that the water coming from the water treatment plants serving Co Kildare is safe to drink. The treatment plants supplying water to customers in Co Kildare are operating in full compliance with drinking water regulations."
