K Leisure Athy's gym has doubled in size thanks to a new extension.

A ceremony was held to mark the opening of the extension yesterday, Wednesday 17 May, with representatives from K Leisure and Kildare County Council in attendance.

The new extension doubles the size of the existing gymnasium and includes a 12-metre custom made prowler track, perfect for weight sled workouts, as well as a full cardio and strength equipment upgrade to the existing gym. The extensive works also include the addition of four new weight racks alongside numerous additional strength and conditioning equipment.

Speaking at the opening, Noel Murphy, Group Operations Manager, Kildare Sports & Leisure Facilities said: "We are delighted to be cutting the ribbon on this exciting and much needed extension and upgrade to the K Leisure facilities in Athy. We've listened to our members and sincerely hope that the increased functional space and extensive equipment upgrades will provide a state of the art facility for our existing members as well as welcome many new members."
