A national campaign to drive down leakage is continuing to progress in County Galway.
Work is expected to begin this week to replace 577m of ageing and damaged water main in An Phairc along the R53947 and R336.
Farrans Construction has been appointed to deliver the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
Programme Manager for Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme, Gerry O'Donnell said: "Securing Galway's water supply is a priority for Uisce Éireann and it is great to see this work commencing which will reduce the risk of outages from bursts now and into the future. Fewer bursts and less leakage mean a stronger more resilient supply for homes and businesses.
"This section of water mains was prioritised for investment and replacement by Uisce Éireann due to its age and deteriorating condition, resulting in supply interruptions to homes and businesses. When completed, this project will significantly reduce leakage and provide local residents with a sustainable and more reliable water supply for generations to come. I would like to thank the local community in advance for their patience and cooperation during the works. We know based on previous experiences that the short-term inconvenience will be overshadowed by the long-term benefits."
Areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise impact on customers. Traffic management in the form of a road closure will in place along the R53947 and a two way traffic light system will be required along the R336 during this time to allow the works to be delivered safely and efficiently. Traffic flows will be diverted during the road closure. Local and emergency traffic will be maintained at all times.
