Ards and North Down Borough Council has launched a new environmental awareness scheme for primary school pupils.
The Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Jennifer Gilmour, joined P4 pupils from Donaghadee Primary school to unveil the project, aimed at promoting citizenship within the Borough.
Project ELLA is designed and delivered by Ards and North Down Borough Council's Neighbourhood Environment Team.
The Project delivers in the four key areas of Environment, Learning, Lifestyle, and Action.
Project ELLA offers pupils the opportunity to learn about the importance of environmental protection and the role of residents to improve and enhance our Borough by way of positive environmental action and behaviour.
Consisting of both classroom and fieldwork-based activities, Project ELLA encourages our younger residents to understand more about the world around us. It delivers innovative and hands on learning experiences for our young people, by encouraging activities such as litter picking and rock pooling.
Councillor Gilmour said: "I am delighted to join pupils from Donaghadee primary school at the launch of Project ELLA. This innovative project is helping educate our young people on the importance of taking care of the world around us.
"Project ELLA is equipping future generations with the skills and knowledge they need to become more environmentally aware, which in turn will help keep our Borough clean, safe and tidy for residents and visitors alike.
"I look forward to watching Project ELLA go from strength to strength and would encourage as many schools as possible in our Borough to get involved."
