Plans have been submitted for proposed public realm improvements for Meath Street in Dublin.

The project is the latest significant investment by Dublin City Council in public space in The Liberties. In recent years the council has made improvements to streets, public spaces and parks in the area under The Liberties Greening Strategy. The refurbishment of Meath Street will follow the significant investment already made to Thomas Street and Francis Street.

Under the proposals the Council envisages:

• Significantly widened footpaths to provide more generous pedestrian space

• An improved street design for ease of movement with new crossing points

• Introducing street trees and soft landscaping, and adding benches

• Creating space for outdoor seating and potential street markets

• Increased cycle parking

• Revising parking and loading arrangements

• Providing new public lighting for a brighter street.

The application was submitted by Dublin City Council's South Central Area Office with design work undertaken by Haslam & Co Architects, who partnered with the Council's Roads Design Division and the Parks, Biodiversity & Landscape Service to develop the scheme.
